SMART Board Troubleshooting Tips

We have had a lot of questions lately about SMART Board so we thought we would give you a few ideas to help you get pointed in the right direction.

Ordering Replacement Parts:
Probably the best place to get cords, pens, AirLiner batteries is Kent Audio Visual. They seem to have many items in stock and are located in the center of the city at 1131 E. 1st Street. Their phone number is 262-4487. You can also call Kansas City Audio Visual but it seems like they take longer and they charge more in shipping. 1-800-798-5228

Downloading Software:
We are getting lots of e-mails and calls from confused teachers about how to get a product code to download SMART Notebook software;
The steps to do this are listed on our website at
http://technology.usd259.org/resources/whiteboards/smart.htm
Remember that you can use the same product code over and over. You can submit a serial number multiple times as well to obtain a new product code. We have found that the product codes stop working after a while. When you request a product code, you should get an e-mail almost instantly. If you don't, try again.

SMART Tech Support
At the beginning of the school year, SMART tech support was not as good as we would have liked. The wait time has increased and they were making you leave a message after 30 minutes. I understand that they have gone back to their old ways and won't make you leave a message. Yea!

You can contact them toll free at 1.866.518.6791. Another possibility is to send them an e-mail at support@smarttech.com .They also have a website at http://www.smarttech.com/support that can help you.

Squiggly Lines Issue
We still hear of boards that do bizarre things when you write on them - a bunch of squiggly lines show up. It is almost exclusively with boards that are mounted. It could be the screws that are interfering or something on the wall that is metal. You may want to call Martin Myrtle at the School Service Center for advice. 3-2012

Blinking Red Light
We have had several reports of the blinking red light which means the SMART Board doesn't work right. Who has had this problem and how did you resolve it?

We had a mounted smart board that had worked fine for about 3 months and then started with squiggly lines. I went into the room and the teacher had put magnets on the white board behind the smart board and we took the magnets off and the smart board started working just fine again.

If your product code doesn't come through almost immediately, look in your junk folder. That is where I found mine after a couple of unsuccessful tried.
